George Ingmire

George Ingmire aka DJ Crushed Velvet, a New Orleans-based DJ, has performed at iconic venues like Lincoln Center, Black Rock City, and in cities including Mexico City, New Orleans, all across the Gulf South, and beyond. His dynamic sets blend a rich mix of Old School R&B, Soul & Funk, House, Bounce, Hip Hop, Brass Band, and World music. Known for his eclectic and daring style, Ingmire effortlessly fuses the familiar with the fresh, introducing audiences to both beloved classics and emerging sounds.

 

For eight years, he produced New Orleans Calling, an internationally syndicated radio program that explored the city's vibrant music, food, and culture. He also hosted The New Orleans Music Show on WWOZ for over two decades, featuring music and interviews that celebrated the heart and soul of New Orleans.

 

Beyond his musical contributions, Ingmire has made a significant mark in film as a sound recordist. He has worked with legendary director Spike Lee on When the Levees Broke and If God Is Willing and the Creek Don’t Rise, and has lent his expertise on film projects in Haiti, Peru, Colombia, and Mexico. His own film, Think of Me First as a Person, was inducted into the National Film Registry in 2006 and has been screened at festivals worldwide.
