George Ingmire has worked in film and radio for 25 years as a sound recordist, producer, editor and interviewer. Love of film runs in his family; George’s grandfather, Dwight Core, filmed daily life. One of George’s earliest film projects was completing, “Think of Me First as a Person,” a film by his grandfather. It entered the National Film Registry at the Library of Congress in 2006.
His lively, wide-ranging radio work for WWOZ includes such subjects as New Orleans musicians, chefs, artists and culture bearers. New Orleans Calling, his signature radio program, was nationally syndicated for 8 years, and he now produces The Reading Life with Susan Larson for WWNO-NPR, adding literary pieces to his repertoire. George brings his background in anthropology, followed up by a master’s in film production from UNO, his depth of experience and his dedication to the art of interviewing, to every oral history project. He believes everyone has a story to tell; his passion is finding that story and crafting it with insight and warmth.
